The process starts with a Design Consultant meeting with the client, discussing their ideas, formulating a proposal that includes a drawing, and agreeing on a scope of work to be performed. A Superintendent, Design Consultant, or General Manager meets the client at our stone yard, to make a flagstone, brick, or brick paver selection.
On the first day of construction, all of our patios start with removing any grass, existing structures, landscaping, patios, or walkways that are present in the site to be worked on. The earth is graded so the new patio is sloped ¼ inch for every foot away from your home. The earth is compacted with plate tampers for proper compaction strength for a patio base. For concret the slab is poured on grade as a base. A patio can also have a 21A aggregate base common with pavers and this is also compacted properly with tamping machines. The shape of the patio is formed out per the contract and designer's drawing for the homeowner's approval. Once the shape is approved, concrete is poured.

Our concrete all comes computer mixed from Virginia Concret or Vulcan materials and comes in 4,000 PSI with micro fibers in normal standard grey color or many different Davis Colors options. For colored concrete we prefer integral color as it last longer than many top casting methods. A 4 inch 4,000 P.S.I. fiberglass reinforced concrete, called Phoenix DriveTech, structure is used as the base. This based can be brush finished, or stamped with different designs and colors. Numerous different varieties of flagstone, brick, or brick pavers can be applied to the base with a mortar mixture that consists of Portland Type II Cement and Maryland Fine Masonry Sand. The joints are striked with a jointer for the final masonry look. In some cases pavers in a stone dust 21A aggregate base can be set and jointed with polymeric sand. The mortar solutions the final product is then given an acid wash to remove excess mortar and dirt to give the patio the final finish. Polymeric sand patio joints need set with caution when applied, as the joints only should get wet to prevent polymeric sand bonding to the stone or pavers. You do not want to acid wash polymeric sand.
